Wightlink Tigers 8 Chelmsford Warriors 1

Added on Thursday 21 Oct 2010

Wightlink Tigers latest game saw them host league basement boys
Chelmsford Warriors. The Tigers opened the scoring with just twenty
eight seconds but any thoughts of a rout of goals would ensue were
short lived as the visitors denied the home side many opportunities as
they forced the Tigers on the back foot.  With man of the match Elliot
Foley standing fast between the pipes the Tigers weren’t going to be a
push over either, and it took the Essex boys fifteen minutes of play to
force the puck over the line in a goal mouth scramble.  The period
ended level at one goal apiece but the Tigers were out shot almost
three to one.

The second period opened with the Tigers taking control of the game and
putting the Warriors net under pressure and with some twenty five
minutes of play lapsed and the pairing of Jason Coles and Daniel Giden
gave the Tigers the lead and pair extended that lead to two just twelve
seconds later.  There was nearly ten minutes of play before the home
side were to light the lamp again but when they did it was a hat-trick
for Coles, assisted by Joe Osborne and Richard Gutteridge. A minute
later Wayne Slater picked up his first senior goal as his pass was
tipped on for Graham MacFarlane to slot home to give the Tigers a four
goal lead.  Final goal of the period was almost a carbon copy of the
first in the period as Coles and Giden gave the Tigers a five goal lead
and the Tigers this period had out played and out shot the visitors
fout to one.  The final period has been the Tigers undoing in there
first few games but they remained focused in this game and got of to a
good start as Nathan Webb netted a shorthanded goal with less than
twenty seconds gone on the period.  The Tigers weren’t making it easy
on themselves as they pulled a string of minor penalties in the period
which did offer the Warriors two, five on three opportunities although
they failed to find the back of the Tigers net.  Final goal of the game
came just past the period halfway marker as Coles fired home a
shorthanded goal assisted by Mike Palin and Tony Blaize to give the
Tigers the eighth goal of the night.

The Wightlink Tigers are home again this Sunday 24th Oct when they take
on Invicta Dynamos with a 5:30 face off.
